Hi.  I've had my 8.5" Automag since early December... I got it right before things went a bit sideways with the company.  Really pretty gun and I do enjoy shooting it.  By the way, get the cocking assist tool.  Trust me on that.  Anyway, I've put about 100 rounds of SBR ammo through it and have noticed what I consider to be significant accelerator wear, even in the face of meticulous care and proper lubrication.  I've both emailed and called automag twice and have not heard back.  I'm really not sure if it's safe to fire at this point.  As this is a potential safety issue that could potentially result in an injurious failure mode, I'm surprised I haven't heard back.  I do understand that the company is in transition, but this is a potential safety issue.

Regards,

Phil

I don’t think that at present there is anyone to answer or return calls. You can text Patrick Henry’s cell number directly and he will call you back and/or do the same to Mike Bush. At present I believe this is the only way to contact anyone w/AutoMag.

I have similar wear that you have. When I first got my 6.5” I could not cock it even with the cocking tool. I have shot over 200 rounds so far. The safety lever is finally engaging the hammer a blocking it like it should. The guns are very tight from the factory. I did a modified 1911/92F tune on mine. Smoothed a lot if the surfaces done to failure to feed from the magazine. I rarely have a failure to feed now and usually it is the last round. I smoothed the accelerator and the block, by rubbing the two curved surfaces with 600 grit lapping compound. Just enough so I could not feel any drag with a drop oil between them. I also smoothed the inside of the recoil tubes as mine would stick when going into battery. I did a lot of other things as well. The accuracy has actually improved with shooting. Unlike a 1911 the barrel does not have to be tight when in battery. I would use a stone and knock off the sharp edge us have. That not on a bearing surface. I would rather have this part wear than the barrel and receiver.

Patrick Henry himself posted this some months back:

If you would like to speak with me my personal cell number is 843-267-7405 text me first because my phone blocks unknown numbers.”

@lsb-gunsmith what in your opinion is causing this wear? Would this over time render the gun unsafe to shoot? Kudos on the fine tuning you performed and the positive end results, however, after having paid a little over 4k for a iconic pistol, when I do decide to start shooting mine, if the same thing happens, it’s going back to AutoMag and they will address the issues. IMO, other than basic care, cleaning and plenty of lubrication, you honestly should not have had to do the things your telling us, not in the least for what it cost to purchase. Time will tell. Great post, thank you for the info, and if you have anything else to pass on to the rest of us, with pictures when possible, please do so, cause it really helps out everyone in the long run. 👍🏻

Could that be from the bolt closing on an empty chamber?
