I drove up yesterday to get the barrel blanks from the heat treater. It took all day, but they are in the building being worked on as I am typing this. I am now working on getting caught up on missed calls/emails while I was out.
Thank you for the updates Rob. It eases the anxiety for those of us waiting for our toys. 😉
@robautomag 900 lbs of barrel stock = how many barrels ? just trying to see if gun in the 900LB 😎 just trying to get you guys to smile 👍
Only coincidentally related to the progress of the new guns, but worth mentioning here anyway:
I visited my son yesterday and presented him with a late Christmas present—a nylon gun rug perfectly sized for the 8.5-inch Auto Mag. I got it, cheap, on Amazon:

It comes in several sizes but ‘large’ is what you need. The medium would probably work for 6-5 inch guns.

@dodge1957 - I have not had the problems you had. But although I am of average strength I could not easily rack it. I called Patrick Henry and he sent me a tool to use and it makes racking much easier
We worked over the weekend. Here is one of the first new in house barrels.
I may need one of those racking assist tools myself, this thing is NOT easy… I still love it though…

It’s easy if you know how to do it. There is a video elsewhere on the site that shows how.
Just depress the muzzle against a table or bench and press forward on the grip of the pistol a half inch or so. This will cause the bolt to rotate and unlock. Then it can be withdrawn easily. I believe the difficulty in cocking stems from the massive strength of the bolt rotation spring at the back of the bolt. Comparing my son’s new gun to my original guns, the initial effort required (when not using a bench for assistance) is much greater. But once the bolts are unlocked, the effort to draw them to the rear is the same.
Try it before investing in an unnecessary tool.
It will be interesting to see if the spring weakens as it breaks in, or if it will always be necessary (or at least very helpful) to depress the muzzle to unlock it.
The link at the bottom of the FAQ section on the Auto Mag website is broken. I found the video and fixed the link:

Personally I’ve never hooked my thumb through the trigger guard, as shown in the video. I use my strong hand to push forward on the grip while pressing the barrel against the bench, and my weak hand (which is very weak) to retract the bolt. Next time I visit my son I will try the thumb hook technique.

Nice! Keep the updates (and picures) coming.
We had 6 guns to go out, but two had FFL problems and we had to hold on to them. We got the correct FFLs for the two, however FedEx had already left.
@robautomag Hey Rob Thank you for all your hard work! One question - since it has been approx a month, will the open order status list be updated soon?
I’m not sure if I’m doing something dumb or what, but the slide release on my gun does not seem to want to move at all. Tried it with and without a magazine installed, no go. Tried it with the slide locked back, still no go. What am I missing?
