I do mine normally on my TDE, but I don't mind either way - the point was that I couldn't get the thumb-safety on at all until I'd spoken with Rob.
That was a big relief - I had the sweats at the thought of mailing my beautiful baby back, so I mentioned it for others who may encounter this.
Great! Get thee back to the range and start enjoying it! (And sharing so we can live vicariously through you!)
🙂 I sure will - I'm still trying to figure out a way to video myself so that y'all can see this beast in action.
I found someone to video me:
First Mag video! Got the Automag in a couple weeks ago and It finally warmed up enough to get outside and shoot it. I ordered a Founders edition in September of 2017 and made the change to a Classic Edition in December to get the benefit of the new engineering.
A few observations:
Fit and finish are great. The gun is tight and well built as you expect with modern manufacturing. Probably the best shiny finish I’ve ever seen. Only “rub” is the rear sight, it is very sharp on the outside corners (this is normal on this type of blade sight) and could be dehorned a bit on the gun. Because of the design of the gun and the cocking piece this is especially noticeable when using a push pull technique since the sight does not move as on other semiautomatic designs with a full slide. As such, my hand slides over these sharp points irritating the meaty part of my left hand below the thumb.
The action is stiff and you can tell the gun and springs are new. As the gun is fired, this should be subside. I applied some extra oil to the guide rods and bolt which seemed to help a little.
Shooting is easy and recoil is very manageable. I have a number of other large caliber handguns and this so far is the softest shooting and most comfortable - the benefit of those stiff springs. First mag ran flawless - a slight misfeed on the first round but good after that. A standard Mag-Lula does not work on these mags due to the length of the 44 AMP rounds.
On the second mag I experienced several dead trigger events where the trigger did not reset after firing. I was not able to replicate it with and empty gun, but it happened several times with a round loaded. My guess is that the trigger reset screw needs adjustment. I did not have the right size Allen key at the range, but will the next time. It’s probably right on the edge of adjustment since it worked for a while and then was intermittent. I’ll try the adjustment and if it doesn’t work reach out to the AM team for solutions.
I did get a chrono on a few rounds - average FPS on the SBR 44 AMP FMJ was 1350 FPS.
Enjoy!
Very nice, William 🙂 It's interesting how our camera microphones can't pick up the concussion this pistol throws

Thanks, Yes - I am a competitive shooter and have noticed similar on my competition videos.. Most gunshots seem to overload the microphones on the phone cameras so you end up with sound clipping. I wish I had a nice way to catch the concussion. You can tell the power of the round with the reaction of the stand. That’s a heavy duty challenge targets stand with a piece of IPSC A Zone sized AR 500 steel on top. It’s a nice heavy setup and you can see it rocking back and forth at least an inch off the ground. Impressive
Yeah, it almost seems like you have a suppressor on it!
I think it’s nearly impossible to accurately record gunfire. Hollywood manufactures gunshot sounds that convey the idea but really don’t sound much like real gunfire at all.
Your video is terrific nonetheless!
@william-weeks Awesome! A fine example of reliability - better than a gas assisted Wildey Magnum.

Yes - I think it speaks to the quality of the Automag product and the team behind it. I'm sure we all reached a point in this project when we had doubts about delivery. Especially given the stories of the original Automag (Pasadena) and some other manufacturers in the firearms industry who have failed to deliver. Patrick reached out to me personally and assured me that they were going to deliver. It took longer than we would have liked, but they did the right things to deliver a high quality product. There were lots of critics and "experts" on the Internet who attacked what they were doing, but regardless Patrick and team kept their word and delivered a class A product and recreated an iconic firearm that has not been manufactured in 30 years. I posted this video to reassure those that are waiting that it is worth the wait, and you'll be happy that you stuck it out! What a wonderful piece of engineering - and pure fun to shoot!
Enjoy!

Well said! Exactly my feelings, and it's been annoying to see various critics mouth off through the years - and delivering this incredible pistol is the perfect response to those people.
