Actually... I should have mentioned that the grip profile is A LOT more comfortable than the original 44 AMP I fired back in 2010. That one felt like a 2x4! (I think it had a set of custom grips)
Mine was ordered 1 August 2018!
@john-d-owens Wow. That's a really long wait. I think for now I'll just forget that I ordered one and be really excited when I finally get the update! 😆
Fingers crossed that the new machinery in house will shorten production times.
My son is still waiting (Feb 2018) but he asked for a brushed 8-inch barrel. Apparently they still don’t have any. I think he could have had it already if he wanted polished.
@john-d-owens This is wonderful news and thank you for the photo. After the last update I had planned to call and confirm my FFL. For sure I will be doing that tomorrow and will most likely order a loading tool. I had thought about it and was sitting on fence however based on your experience it is a must have now…... @jimmyo I purchased mine (CE-98) in Aug of 2019. I had visited the factory later that year and they let me fire a test gun named the “Mule”. Yes it’s a handful so I bought rubber rap around grip. It has been a couple of years since I bought it but if I remember it was the last one and they were changing the design. Maybe check with @Rob and see if they have the new design in. Yes I am left handed and the grip fits nicely. Tim Bell got a real kick seeing a south paw shoot an AM.
@timothy-evans wow that wraparound rubber grip is really nice and I’d love to get my hands on a pair. But you are right, they have changed the design and I can’t find that style grip anywhere. They are all two piece design now, either G-10 or Wood. Made by Hogue and I searched the Hogue website for a pair of these too. Nothing. Yours look great though!!!
That grip looks great. Wish I could get a grip like that. I hope they start making something like that by the time my 8.5 gets built.

Patrick sent pics to me several years ago of those rubber grips, which Hogue was prototyping for them. The finger grooves are cool but they do add slightly to the overall diameter of the grip. If one was to go the rubber-grip route, it would be most helpful to have them wrap around the back side rather than the front, to try to absorb recoil, like revolver grips do.
Having said that, I think if these finger grips were available I would be tempted to try them out I have wood grips from Grips4U on both my original guns, which are infinitely better than the factory plastic grips. (They look very much like the new Hogue wood grips). They are contoured nicely and are more oval when viewed from above, as opposed to the factory 1970s grips which were rather like holding a wet 2x4….
I have a set of the Hogue rubber finger groove grips but I have not put them on an AMP yet.
The look identical to the Hogue Monogrips that Smith has used on their K, L, and N frame revolvers for years now. The backstrap is not covered but I have found these grips to be the best in handling the recoil of my 629. The should work great for handling the muzzle flip on an Auto Mag.
Where is the serial number located on an Auto Mag? Please understand that I have never actually held or seen an Auto Mag up close.
@john-d-owens. Delivery update or undate…. After receiving Patrick’s email about deliveries and FFL‘s I called last week and they did not have my FFL‘s record. I had my FFL resend his license and I followed up with Automag this week. I spoke to a very nice lady and I inquired about my pistol. when I told her I was CE98 she said it was ready to be picked up by FedEx. That afternoon. And then she realized the name on the box wasn’t mine. And then it came to surface 98 isn’t mine either. After years of waiting and months of being told I was SN 98 it appears I have not been assigned a SN and she could not tell me when I would be however did emphasized they were shipping in the order of purchase. Ironically when I bought my pistol I asked Patrick the back log and he told me in Aug of 19 there where about 35 CE’s ahead of me. She could not confirm they had my updated FFL either just that if it was sent to sales they would look it up as they get to my order because of an in rush of ffl’s after the last update.
I am truly disappointed.
To CE98 it’s on the way!
