@blatz62

LORIS, SC DEC. 14, 2022 – Auto Mag Ltd., CO, exists to revitalize the American classic known as the .44 Auto Mag pistol. In 2015, Auto Mag Ltd. answered the call and obtained exclusive rights to the iconic firearm, namesake, and brand. Over the past 7 years, significant improvements have been made and will continue to be made to increase reliability, quality, and performance in a new location. With today’s announcement, Auto Mag Ltd. is formally moving its headquarters and all elements of its operations to Connecticut in 2023.
Michael Bush, said, "After an exhaustive and thorough analysis, Auto Mag Ltd. has determined that relocating all operations would allow for the best environment for the continued health and strength of the iconic company and Auto Mag Ltd. brand. We feel that in its new location, Auto Mag Ltd. will have better access to industry-leading engineering services, vendors, and services that allow Auto Mag Ltd. to continue its growth as a World Class brand." Bush indicated that Auto Mag Ltd. vetted several cities and states and, after careful consideration, decided to relocate the business and its headquarters to Connecticut. The key factors in the decision included the following:
  • Availability of Industry Leading Engineering Services
  • Access to vendor network
  • Availability of qualified labor
  • Favorable location for distribution and manufacturing
Auto Mag Ltd., will close all facilities in South Carolina as part of consolidating efforts to Connecticut. "We choose to make this announcement now to ensure that our customers have complete transparency into our operations. We are firmly committed to working on an individual level with every customer who has an open order. Rest assured, all current orders will be fulfilled. In the process of standing up production, there will be a lapse in delivery timelines, but all open orders will be fulfilled by the end of February 2023," Bush said. During this transition, we ask for your continued patience during this time. @midauto I hope it's not a bankruptcy situation either, I tried to get in line for a second gun and ran into the "sales are temporarily halted " line. My card wasn't charged either, so I assume the order didn't go through. I figured maybe after a bit they would get caught up and it would go through, then we got the silent treatment, now here we are. I tried to order a couple of extra magazines way back in the summer, but they were showing negative inventory even then. That was when I started getting that sinking feeling. Still hoping it works out, and this is all just temporary, maybe Rob will give us some news since the new guys won't answer emails or even post more on their website other than " coming soon".

@blatz62 I got mine last summer, finally got a little ammo. I have shot mine a bit, was really hoping to take it hunting, but like you, I may just put it up and get a Colt Anaconda. Hopefully this will work out, I really would like to eventually get another one.

@dodgeramcharger I agree, but as it was said, the company was sued, pretty short and sweet as lawsuits go IMO, and for what reason one can only speculate. Seven years, redesigning, huge capital spending and improvements in manufacturing, ten pistols a week, well unfortunately that number likely wasn’t making ends meet. Maybe someone could find out WHO the company IS exactly that sued? A finance / loan company? Money just doesn’t appear out of thin air.

@blatz62 Maybe somebody will take another stab at bringing back the Bren Ten too, it looked like it was coming back a few years ago, and poof. At least we got the Anaconda and Python back. Hang in there.

It’s reasonable to think that we will learn more about the move and any lawsuit in weeks ahead.  My 8.5 polished 180D took 2 1/2 years from deposit to delivery.  I and others placed our payments in full before the tooling was even in place.  If there was ever a time we could have kissed our $4,000 good bye it was then.

I personally hate speculation when there are management changes.  More times than not these types of operational restructuring efforts address a hurdle the current management team has been unable to successfully address.  A good qualified pool of technical manufacturing resources is almost impossible to find anywhere in the US today.  CNC operators and machinists are retiring faster than tech schools are cranking them out.

With the work I have done across a number of industries during my career, these lawsuit things can literally be anything from real estate leases (Automag is leaving SC for CT) and debt financing to investor and change of ownership challenges.  People and businesses get their noses bent out of shape for some of the stupidest things too.

Long story short, I think we’re going to hear an update that will set aside our concerns.

All the stuff that is going on with AutoMag reminds me of what happened to Coonan Inc. Luckily I was able to get a Coonan .357 magnum. Coonan was brought back a second time and all of sudden orders stopped being forfilled and many customers never got their money back. Coonan finally folded up due to some court case. One of the last messages they sent read:

Coonan Inc. wants to reach out to our loyal customers and dealers…Coonan Inc. is NOT GONE!

Due to contractual obligations, we have been unable to discuss the big changes that are happening. We sincerely apologize for the lack of communication. This process has taken far longer than we had anticipated, but there have been a lot of things going on behind the scenes. We have been working very hard to restructure the company in ways that will allow us to serve our customer’s needs better and faster. These changes will also allow us to pursue even more exciting new projects.

While obstacles can pop up easily during this type of transition, we do hope to have things up and running by the end of November. Once we have completed the process, we will contact our customers with delivery dates on orders for pistols, FAL receivers, and accessories.

I really hope I'm not down the drain with $4200.

I have wanted one of these for 30 years, the excitement that there was a team that worked very hard to improve and re-release into the industry was awesome and I could not wait to get my name on the list.  I don't mean any disrespect to the AutoMag team up to this point and like all the others that have one on order, I want us all to get what we have been waiting for!!!  However, one mentioned they ordered before tooling was in place... well you were well aware of the risk, I was sold on the belief that they were little over the 180 day lead time, until they showed me where to find the wait list after payment..... seen that they were over 2 years behind.  Still very patient waiting .... then we all know what happened.  I just hope for all this all turns out amazing, however we can't just put our heads in the sand without doing a little research of our own and be somewhat ready for the ball to drop too.

I too have been part of buyouts/ bankruptcies and fully understand the certain amount of not communicating any details of problems, but a total silence is where I get concerned more.  There would be excitement from the "new" team or facility wanting to calm this all down and promote stability.  We are in different times where supplies and Labor are very difficult... more than ever before but be open.

I waited a year to order until I had Ammo secured in my hands, so if this does not end positive, I will have 400 rounds up for grab cheap...lol.

Keep the faith......................

@midauto  The fact that the new guys are totally silent with no response to email or even setting up their website is not a good sign. I think you hit it dead on when you said they should be excited and getting ahead of things if they intend to ramp things up. The longer the silence lasts, the more unsettling this gets. I keep hoping it works out for the best, but confidence is eroding more every day without some kind of news. I appreciate Rob stepping up and trying to shed some light, but.....

I want to remain hopeful. On the other hand,  perhaps someone should establish a customer contact list ? It’s going to become very dark and lonely if this forum suddenly vanishes.

@sudden-impact  I agree that we should be able to get in touch with each other just in case.  I was so Jazed at the prospect of buying the new Auto Mag that I went ahead and bought over 500 rounds of ammo along with reloading equipment. I hope they reply to our concerns soon, starting to worry.

I too have made a pre delivery investment. A presentation case, magazine loading tool, challenge coin, case forming dies, loading dies, along with several hundred Starline cases. If this turns out to be a bust, in addition to losing my money, I will have all this stuff to get rid of. We can only trust, that this new organization will honor the customers that paid up front, with either their guns, or refunds. Preferably their guns. Just waiting around for an answer is terrible.
