I can share my velocities I got last year if it's helpful - this was shot through my 6.5" TDE. Load was 22.5 gr H110 under a Hornady 240 gr XTP in Starline brass/Win primer - versus factory SBR Ammunition 240 gr:

For years I have been loading my 6.5" TDE (1971-1972) with Hornady XTP 240 g, ahead of 19.7 - 21 g of H110/296.  Seems to work just fine, with no indication of overpressure and no lock back unreliability.  CC

I read a lot of guys are using WLP. I loaded a 100 rounds in anticipation of getting my new Classic and used CCI350 magnum primers for no other reason than I have 1000 I use for reloading my model  29.

My load is 23gr of W296, Starline brass trimmed to 1.296, 240gr XTP OAL 1.606 with a taper crimp

Thoughts or advice?

Thx, Tim

@timothy-evans Are you using a 44 magnum taper die?

@rodney-fox I am using the taper die that came with the RCBS auto Mag set I purchased from another Automag Owner. On a sidenote I do taper crimp my 44 Remington Magnum also

When covid started, I had some free time. I have my 650 all set up to run .44AMP.   I had to call Dillion and RCBS to make it happen. They were both a big help. I ran a few through it and shut it down. I am waiting for my adoption to become complete.

Very nice set up.  What powder are you using?

H110 is a good powder.

I use allot of H110, W296 with all of my 44mags, 454 Casulls , 460 S W. I get great results and like not having to have tons of different powders around.

I use H110 in .300 Blk subs and .410 shotgun, too - versatile stuff.

How do you guys that have the Hornady 44amp dies like them? I haven't ordered any reloading dies yet. I am normally a RCBS guy, but their die sets are quite scarce, and pricey.

I am working on making up a case forming setup, as who knows, when Starline will fulfill their commitment to produce 100,000 cases. Everything is backordered. I made up a 7/8x14 trim die, out of a 4140 steel barrel stub, which I am going to harden. Probably can't get it quite as hard as a factory trim die, but if it wears, I can just back off on the lock ring. I also bought a Forster 44 cal reamer for my case trimmer. It should work. Also I found a Redding extended shellholder, as the RCBS ones are really scarce.

In all, I have about $40 tied up in this. As soon as these items arrive, I can get to work, and see what kind of result I get.
