I noticed that when I have the gun cocked, I can not just simply engage the safety.  I have to pull the hammer back even further to get it to engage.  Has anyone else experienced this?

That was/is a ‘feature’ of the original Auto Mag. It was a design flaw then, and I suppose it has carried over to the new guns as well. I have an old Star 9mm and it does the same thing. It’s a minor nuisance at most.

I have the same issue with mine. Just haven’t had the time to look into it.

Yes. I phoned Automag about this last year and spoke with Rob - he said to just work the thumb-safety while leaving the hammer alone. It starts off very stiff then eases up.

I had the same conversation with Rob a few weeks ago. With the hammer cocked, the safety did not seem to be able to engage. I didn't notice at the time that if the hammer is pulled back further, the safety engages easily. I see now that the safety actually makes the hammer go back slightly. I don't mind that the safety is stiff, and hopefully, as Rob said, it will get easier over time. I was just glad there was not a problem or defect.

Another thing, in the manual is states that the with the slide locked back, to release the slide, you can push the safety down. For me, that does not work. I have reasonably strong hands and no matter how hard I push, the slide will not release. I fell like if I were able to push harder, I would break something. Does this actually work for anyone?

@brian I have had my pistol since last December, and I had the same issue with the safety being hard to engage, but over time and use it has smoothed out considerably. I also most always use the safety lever to release the slide, it just seems easier to me than pulling back on the slide to release it. the more I have used the safety lever the smoother it has become.
