I used the Oil supplied with the gun for firing. I heard FP-10 is good. Maybe it is just break in time?
I just have to say, the new firing pin is spot on! Thanks to the AutoMag team for this new design feature. It works flawlessly.
what would be really classic is for a hooded from sight with a glow pin. I can envision something like what is shown with the hood mounted to a version of the AutoMag stainless base, but with the sight pin shown. A nice green glowing dot.

@paul-wolf Thinking that the word classic, used, may not be entirely correct. Classic would indicate original lines, profile, function, etc. A hooded sight and a glow pin do not fit a gun born in the early '70s. For me, the classic look is the original, like my 1971 AM. If I wanted hooded sights, or a glow pin front dot, I would stay with the modern, everything looks the same, firearms. CC
@ccibsen …Fair enough. I just like them and my new AutoMag has a new front sight that can be removed unlike the original I owned. This means for the owner there are options which I greatly appreciate. Looking forward to more barrel options as well.
@paul-wolf After I hit the send, I was unable to retract. Realized just how foolish I was, considering that I have many pistols, especially 1911s, that I have "upgraded" over the years with Crimson Trace Lasers, Red Dot Optics, different sights, etc. Starting to think on your wave length. Not for my original 1971, but maybe for the new one, if I make the order. CC
Speaking of the front sight, I noticed yesterday that mine was wobbling - so I removed the grub-screw, added a dab of blue Loctite and reassembled. Just a heads-up to check yours 😉
@andyc Yes, mine is loose as well however I cannot tighten or loosen it without potentially breaking the Allen wrench. I asked Rob and he did not respond if it already had been installed with thread locker or not. I did ask…
Also, my magazine weld is cracking down the back. Upon disassembly I noted that the weld did not go all the way through. Patrick said they would simply replace the magazines with correctly welded ones. 25 rounds so far… I do love the way they shoot though. Very accurate, and very much improved firing pin.
My first new mag, that I bought before the new pistol arrived, is developing a small crack at the top rear too; I guess I'll phone Rob and check - thanks for the heads-up on this.
I also disassembled the magazine and also noted that several parts needed to be de-burred and is likely what caused som feeding problems. They are very solid magazines of which I am impressed. They just need the assemblers to take their time and focus on the basics of quality for each part going into assembly. Take pride in their work because we are all pulling for them to do well. That is what makes forums like this powerful. We are part of their team.
@Gaylon.Griffin and @Paul.Wolf,
I received my FE a few months ago. I'm down here in Vancouver. We should try and set up a day and place to meet and bring the Auto Mag's out.
👍
Talked with Rob today, as always very helpful and busy, a man who wears many hats as they say. It’s great that more machines being added and more work done in house. It’s gonna be a great day at the range when I finally get mine, because it’s gonna be worth the wait. Even received my serial number today 😎 !
