The original design of the Auto Mag Auto Mag 180 Model A & B firing pin was supposed to weigh 65-grains. While trying to solve a firing reliability issue someone thought that they should try increasing the weight to 75-grains. While this did not solve the problem, the weight was never reduced and due to this additional weight the original Auto Mag could inertia fire out of battery. When there is no magazine in the gun, and a live round is placed in the chamber and if the bolt is released the bolt slams to a stop against the breech face but due to inertia the firing pin continues to move forward and will strike the primer. This problem presents itself especially when the firearm is pointed downward. Usually, the primer is not struck hard enough to cause the cartridge to fire, but if it fires without the bolt in battery it will permanently damage the bolt, cocking piece, and usually the frame beyond repair. That is why we have modified the new firing pin to a 55-grain made from titanium. While we are not aware of any injuries because of this flaw, we felt it still needed to be addressed.

The Titanium Firing Pin and Springs Upgrade Kit includes the new Titanium Firing Pin and Firing pin spring (part #17 & 18), inner and outer hammer springs (part #55 & 56), sear spring (part #43), and a hammer pin retaining ring (part #49).
